Unsure what to do with the Golden Idol in Path of Exile 2? During Act Three, you’ll likely come across at least one of these idols while exploring Utzaal. The Golden Idol is the most likely to be found first, as it’s located in a fixed spot within Napuatzi’s quarters.
In total, there are six idols scattered throughout the ancient city: the Golden Idol, Grand Idol, Glorious Idol, Exquisite Idol, Elegant Idol, and Exceptional Idol, commonly known as Peculiar Fortunes. Some are placed on altars within the city, guarded by enemies, while others are hidden in smaller rooms accessible through doorways, like Napuatzi’s quarters.
Much like the Sacrificial Heart found in Utzaal, the purpose of these Peculiar Fortunes can be a bit unclear. Here’s a guide on how to obtain and use the Golden Idol and its counterparts in Act Three of Path of Exile 2.
Peculiar Fortunes in Path of Exile 2
Peculiar Fortunes or Idols are rare rewards found throughout Act 3’s wilderness. These items are highly sought after, as they can be sold to the NPC Oswald for gold, an essential resource in Path of Exile 2.
Location of the Idols
The six Idols are split evenly between two regions:
Utzaal Region
- Golden Idol: In Utzaal, the Golden Idol can be found inside Napuatzi’s Quarters. The idol is sitting on a table—take it to add it to your inventory. Be sure to loot the chests for valuable items and gold (this is where players find the Golden Idol).
- Grand Idol: In the Utzaal region, you’ll come across a checkpoint that allows you to access Azcapa’s Quarters. Inside, on a table, you’ll find the Grand Idol waiting to be added to your inventory. Be sure to loot the chests in the room for valuable items as well (the Idol can spawn anywhere but this is where most players have found the Grand Idol).
- Glorious Idol: First, make your way to Utzaal and head to Uromoti’s Quarters. Loot the chests to obtain items like the Orb of Augmentation and gold. On the right side, you’ll find the Glorious Idol sitting on a table—take it to add it to your inventory (the Idol can spawn anywhere but this is where most players have found the Glorious Idol).
Remember: Idols in both Aggorat and Utzaal spawn randomly, so thorough exploration is key. Take your time—patience and careful attention will reward you.
Aggorat Region
- Exquisite Idol
- Elegant Idol
- Exceptional Idol
Unlike the Utzaal idols, the Aggorat idols are heavily protected by elite enemies, forcing players to defeat these foes before they can claim their reward.
For Aggorat idols, brace yourself for tough battles against elite enemies. Make sure to equip your character with powerful builds and defensive gear to improve your chances of success.
How to Use the Golden Idol and Others in Path of Exile 2
If you inspect the Golden Idol—or any other idols found in Utzaal—it states they can be exchanged with Oswald in the Ziggurat Encampment. However, when you visit him, no specific dialogue option appears for the Idols. Instead, you must sell them to Oswald through the regular vendor menu.
The gold offered by Oswald varies based on the Idol’s rarity:
- Golden and Exquisite Idols: 500 gold
- Grand and Elegant Idols: 1,000 gold
- Glorious and Exceptional Idols: 1,500 gold
Though these idols are marked as “Quest Items,” they are simply loot to be sold for gold, with no further purpose. While the reward isn’t significant, it’s worth picking up and selling any idols you find during your exploration of Utzaal for some extra currency.
